Living With Cancer Support Group
 
 
Tuesdays July 26 – August 30, 2011
1:00-2:00pm
 
 
Those coping with cancer and their family and friends are welcome to attend. The sessions are offered free of charge. Each group meeting will include an educational component as well as an opportunity for group sharing and interaction. Patients, families and friends will find support and understanding as they cope with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
 
July 26- Nutrition Notes: Fighting cancer with your knife and fork. Address your nutrition questions and get new ideas that work. (Kelly Marques, RD)
August 2- Vitamins/Supplements Q & A: An opportunity to learn which supplements are important in cancer treatment andprevention. (Phil Grasso, ND)
August 9- Ask an Oncologist: What is cancer? Why did I get it? Does it run in my family? Come to this conversational question and answer session with a medical oncologist. (Daniel Bruetman, MD)
August, 16- Thoughts, Emotions, and Hope: Examine the mind-body connection and its role in cancer wellness. Experience hope through mutually shared stories and experiences. (Karen Alkema, PNI Counselor)     
August 23- Smoking and Cancer: Learn about the impact of smoking on your health and about community resources available to help you stop smoking. Also gain insight into how to support a loved one who is currently smoking. This session is for both patients and loved ones. (Jill Sabo, Project Coordinator for Tobacco Free St. Joseph County)
August 30- Coping Together: This session offers practical advice for cancer patients and their loved ones about how to support one another through a cancer diagnosis, treatment and on to survivorship.  (Karen Alkema, PNI Counselor)     
 
Meetings will be held in the Conference Room on the first floor of Cancer Care Partners at 301 East Day Road, Mishawaka, IN. Advance registration is helpful but not required. Please call Katie at 204-7232 if you are interested in attending.
