Gastroenterologist

Practicing medicine for 25 years, Dr. Luis A. Nidea is an experienced physician who addresses all his patients’ needs. As a boardcertified gastroenterologist, Dr. Nidea treats disorders of the digestive system and liver, including cancer, as well as heartburn and acid reflux disease. This experienced physician performs screenings for colon cancer, as well as stenting of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract for benign and malignant masses, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenscopy (EGD), therapeutic and capsule endoscopy, esophageal and anorectal manometry, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and dilations of the GI tract. Dr. Nidea is part of an integrated team of experts at Cancer Care Partners that treats the whole person, not just cancer.

Dr. Nidea attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and finished his bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, Ill. He completed his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, where he was named a James Scholar in neurology and received outstanding honors during an obstetrics/gynecological clerkship. He then completed his internship in general surgery at the University of Illinois Hospital and its affiliates, and his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, both in Chicago. Following that, Dr. Nidea was awarded fellowships in gastroenterology at Cook County Hospital and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago. Prior to joining The South Bend Clinic in 2004, Dr Nidea served patients at several other hospitals in the Chicago area. He is also fluent in Spanish.
