Medical Oncologist

Rudolph M. Navari Dr. Rudolph M. Navari is a board-certified medical oncologist whose expertise and years of research have made him a leader in his field. Completely dedicated to his patients, Dr. Navari personalizes each treatment program to better manage the cancer, therapies and related side effects, as well as address the emotional needs of his patients and their families. At Cancer Care Partners he works with an entire team of specialists to diagnose and treat cancers, such as breast, colon and lung, as well as lymphomas such as Hodgkin’s disease. In addition, he diagnoses and treats disorders of the blood, such as anemia, clotting and bleeding problems, and white blood cell problems, including leukemia and other disorders of the bone marrow.

Prior to moving to South Bend, Ind., Dr. Navari was a Fellow at MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. In 1999, he joined The South Bend Clinic and the faculty of the University of Notre Dame as professor and director of the university’s Walther Cancer Research Center, both in Notre Dame, Ind. In 2000, he was appointed associate dean of The College of Science at the University of Notre Dame. In July 2005, he became a professor of medicine, as well as assistant dean and director of the Indiana University School of Medicine–South Bend. Dr. Navari’s research interests include supportive care in clinical oncology, development of antiemetics, palliative care, and the doctor-patient relationship in clinical oncology.

Dr. Navari received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., and his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. He earned his PhD from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.  Following graduation, he completed his residency in internal medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, and then a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, part of the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.
